The Team. I love to work with a small team of dedicated and talented researchers. Together we ask big questions about corals and coral reefs, and undertake research that can give a greater insight into these amazing and valuable ecosystems.
Dr Martina De Freitas Prazeres Martina comes to JCU after undertaking her PhD at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Prof John Pandolfi. Her research investigates Foraminfera of the GBR and she is based in the lab of A/Proff Bill Leggat and we are collaborating to investigate Foraminfera microbial ecology. Her research aims to gain insights in foraminfera biology, their role in marine ecosystems and how these organisms respond to changing environment . Ms Alejandra Hernandez Ale joined us at JCU in 2013 and is undertaking a fabulous project on coral microbial symbiosis. Sheis particularly focused on understanding coral microbial ecology, the microbial role in coral success and microbial contribution to coral function on mesophotic reefs. Mr Joshua Bonesso Josh joined us from La Trobe University to undertake an honours degree. His project is aimed to understand the molecular machinery controlling coral tissue regeneration and how it's impacted by thermal stress. His research has taken him to Heron Island Research Station on the Southern Great Barrier Reef where he conducted experiments on our favorite coral of the reef flat, Acropora aspera.
